Climate of profits: a workshop in Brussels
Transparency is not one of oil’s properties; corruption seems to rise to its surface wherever it is found. Is oil intrinsically dirty?

This was the starting point for my presentation about the relationship between corruption and the environment, in a workshop for journalists from across Europe organised by Friends of the Earth International (FoEI) and Inter Press Service (IPS) in Brussels. It is no coincidence the countries that depend on the exploitation of their natural resources experience high levels of corruption. Most of the biggest oil producers are among the most corrupt in the world.
Right before, I had organised another workshop with a bunch of campaigners and press officers from FoEI. I did a presentation entitled “Expert interviews: Are you ready?” and we tried and discussed interviewing techniques, and put them into practice.
